Business professionals outside of accounting and finance must understand how their organization manages, reports, and plans their financial resources.
With Hamline’s Business Finance certificate, you can establish a solid grounding in finance and learn the vocabulary, concepts, and introductory tools to understand the language, drivers, and metrics of your organization’s accounting and finance functions.

Start dates and application deadlines
We review applications on a rolling basis, meaning you can apply anytime. The Business Finance Certificate program has one start per year during the spring semester. We recommend applying at least six weeks before the term begins to ensure your spot.
Business Finance Certificate program format
Hamline's Business Finance Certificate courses are offered both online and on-campus, with classes meeting once a week from 5:45 to 9:45 p.m.
Time to complete your Business Finance Certificate
The typical time to complete the certificate is one semester, or four months.
Business Finance courses
You’ll finish your certificate with just two courses:
- MBA 8230: Financial Accounting for Managers (4 credits)
- MBA 8245: Financial Decision Making (4 credits)
Apply
Applying to the Business Finance Certificate program is simple, and only required if this is the first certificate you’ve applied for at Hamline or if you are not enrolled in another Hamline School of Business degree or certificate program.
- Online application (no fee)
- Official transcript of a bachelor’s degree with a GPA of at least 2.5 from a regionally accredited college or university.
- This should be sent directly from the institution to Graduate Admission or provided in a sealed, signed envelope. Official electronic transcripts should be emailed from the institution to gradprog@hamline.edu.
- You do not have to supply transcripts for courses taken at Hamline University

Enrolling in a certificate program is a great way to experience what the master's programs at Hamline are like. With the Business Finance Certificate, you’ll earn credits that you can apply toward the following Hamline master's degrees:
