The shootings at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis on Aug. 28 left two children dead, 21 others injured, and a community in mourning. The tragedy brought Hamline faculty expertise to the fore.

Casper Voyles, assistant professor of public health in the Department of Social Justice and Social Change, recently published an article in International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. The article, “Measuring the Association Between Sports and Mental Health Among Mexican LGBTQ People: Psychological Distress Among Athletes, Spectators/Volunteers, and Non-Attendees During the 2023 Gay Games,” describes the association between psychological distress and participation in the 2023 Gay Games in Guadalajara.

John Brandon, a novelist and associate professor of creative writing, recently reviewed Addie E. Citchens’ “Dominion” for The New York Times.

President Hostetter made her debut at CHS Field — home of Hamline Baseball — for Hamline Night at the St. Paul Saints vs. Worcester Red Sox on July 24, 2025. After throwing out a ceremonial first pitch, she stopped in the broadcast booth to share her thoughts about what makes Hamline special and how the opportunity to lead us brought her home to Minnesota.

The Minnesota Office of Higher Education (OHE) has awarded Hamline University an Intervention for College Attendance Program (ICAP) grant to support the Piper Academic Community (PAC) program. ICAP grants provide funding to programs designed to encourage college attendance of historically underserved students, helping bridge the gap between K-12 education and students' first year of postsecondary education.

Beginning in fall 2025, Hamline is launching the nation's first graduate certificate in nature-based education for classroom teachers and other school staff. Building on the success of the Teacher Field School, the ten-credit certificate program includes nature immersion, individualized and team-based approaches to curriculum refinement and student support, and a final synthesis project.

Hamline has joined the Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education (NetVUE)—a nationwide consortium administered by the Council of Independent Colleges and generously supported by Lilly Endowment, Inc. Our participation underscores Hamline’s ongoing commitment to supporting students as they explore their many callings in life.
