Minnesota’s primary election will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 11, to narrow the field of candidates ahead of the general election in November. Now is the time to make a plan for how you’ll vote in the primary.
More than 600 candidates are running in 197 races across the state, including U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative, Governor and Lieutenant Governor, State Auditor, State Attorney General, State Senator, State Representative, as well as judicial seats. Depending on where you vote, your ballot may have races for city, county and school board positions.
Students can register to vote based on the address they consider “home,” which might be a parent’s home or their school address. The advance registration deadline for the Aug. 11 primary has passed, but you can register at your polling place on Aug. 11 by showing proof of your name and current address. Hamline students who live on campus or provided their off-campus address in Workday can use their Hamline ID to register and vote in Ramsey County elections.
