Biggins helps MN Vixens to national title

Ellie Biggins '23, undergraduate admissions counselor and assistant line coach for the Hamline football team, helped the Minnesota Vixen win the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) national championship for the first time.

“This championship means so much because it represents more than just this team,” Biggins said. “It represents every woman who helped pave the way for us to reach this moment.”

The Vixen defeated the Pittsburgh Passion 42-14 in Canton, Ohio on Saturday, July 25, finishing the season with an 8-1 record and earning the first national championship in franchise history.

Biggins joined the team as a rookie in 2025 and returned this season as a defensive lineman. She was among nearly a dozen former Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) student-athletes and coaches who contributed to the championship season, including alumna Michele Braun ’04. 

She first connected with the Vixen after meeting the team's owner at the airport. After recognizing the team's logo, she asked about women’s football and was encouraged to try out. A few months later she joined the team.

The experience has influenced how Biggins approaches her work with students, families and her athletes.

“I know how important it is for someone to feel seen, supported, and encouraged as they figure out where they belong,” Biggins said. “As a coach, playing for the Vixen has helped me better understand what athletes need from their leaders.”
