Biography

John Lochner has over 35 years of management consulting and information technology experience, building large scale applications for Fortune 500 companies. He was responsible for systems engineering training at Electronic Data Systems and set up the program in Europe in the mid 1980’s. He was a member of KPMG’s national IT practice doing large system project turnarounds, developed deployment practices and oversaw operations for a software start-up company, and focused a large part of his career on developing Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse solutions, including “Big Data” approaches to complex data issues.

He has taught as an adjunct professor at Hamline since 2008, teaching Organizational Behavior, Leadership Development, Field Studies capstone, and Human Resources Management in the MBA program, and Strategic Management capstone at the undergraduate level. His next focus is carrying his passion for data and analytics into the classroom.

He is currently a doctoral candidate in Hamline’s DPA program, and has an M.A. in Nonprofit Management from Hamline, an M.A. in International Management from the University of Texas, Dallas, and a B.S. in Marketing from Ohio State University.

Teaching Style

The pace of change continues to increase. The volume of data and information available to us is growing exponentially. Critical thinking skills are imperative to make sense of all this and be successful in the business world. Professor Lochner works hard to encourage students to consider multiple contexts and perspectives when examining an issue, and to be life-long learners with an ever-growing toolkit to apply to the challenge.
