• Department Scholarships: Digital Media Arts

    Digital Media Arts Department is looking for gifted digital artists, designers, and filmmakers. We believe that good digital art digs deep into contemporary life and asks hard questions. To apply to this scholarship, follow the directions listed below:

    Deadlines

    Transfer Spring 2020 student application deadline: December 1, 2019

    First-Year student application deadline: February 1, 2020

    Transfer Fall 2020 student application deadline: May 1, 2020

    Scholarship Criteria

    Admitted students applying for this scholarship must declare a Digital Media Arts major by the end of Sophomore year and maintain a 3.0 GPA. Scholarship holders will be expected to participate in yearly portfolio reviews and be active in the activities of the program.  

    All required materials for admission to Hamline University must be submitted before applying for departmental scholarships. Scholarship applications and materials received after the deadline will not be considered. Scholarships are only awarded to students who have received an offer of admission from Hamline University.

    Interview Process

    A select group of students will be invited to campus to meet with the Scholarship Selection Committee as the final step of the award process. Scholarship finalists should be prepared to present a new or longer sample of their work (5 minutes max for viewing or listening to new materials). The Scholarship Selection Committee will ask questions about the work, your interests, topics from your statement and ideas you have about media and the future of media communication. 

    Interviews will be held in mid-February. Information about interviewing will be sent to select students at the email address they provide on the application.

    How to Maintain this Scholarship

    To maintain this scholarship, the recipient must maintain a 3.0 GPA, participate in annual portfolio reviews and be active in the activities of the program, and declare a major in Digital Media Arts by the end of the sophomore year.

    Required materials and Application process

    Post your work online. Add link in your application above. Use the following guidelines for submitting various media:

    Video: Submit a segment of a completed work that shows the main concept and craft in no longer than 5 minutes

    Animation: Submit a sample of your animation less than 5 minutes in length

    Audio Production and Sound Art: Post online and submit URL

    Web: Web interactive projects, post the URL of the homepage

    Graphic Design: Document projects, post online and submit URL

    Kinetic, Interactive, 4D Media: Document the work with photos or videos
