Undergraduate student scholarships

Show us your talent in music

Do you play an instrument or participate in a music ensemble? Hamline’s Music Scholarship is designed to support students who have a demonstrated interest in and aptitude for music performance. This award provides up to $5,000 and can be renewed for three years if you meet the eligibility requirements. You don’t need to be a music major to apply—we’re looking for talented musicians from diverse backgrounds.

That said, if you’re hoping to study music at Hamline University, we’re excited to tell you more. The Department of Music is dedicated to educating the future generation of musicians and performers. From theory and composition to improvisation, you’ll develop a musical foundation for life.

Music scholarship criteria

Wondering if you’re eligible to apply? Students have to submit their admission materials and receive an offer of admission to Hamline before applying for any departmental scholarships. The Music Scholarship is open to any student who participates in a musical ensemble, regardless of major.

Applicants will be reviewed based on their ensemble work, music-related coursework, and history of performing and taking private lessons. Scholarship finalists will then be invited to audition for music faculty.

To maintain the scholarship annually, students must:

  • Maintain a 3.0 GPA
  • Participate in a music ensemble
  • Enroll in either private music lessons or music classes
