• Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)

    Language is a vital resource. Hamline’s Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages prepares educators to enhance skills in English that promote social and economic access and equity—while also sustaining the linguistic and cultural diversity that enriches the community.

    Our two concentrations (teaching adults or teaching K-12) are designed to prepare you for working locally or internationally with the audience of learners of your choice.

    With a Master of Arts in TESOL from Hamline, you will:

    • Understand the relationship between language and culture and its implications for learning and society.
    • Gain foundational knowledge in language systems and how they relate to instruction.
    • Develop 21st-century skills in teaching and assessment.
    • Develop the expertise to effectively motivate English language learners in a variety of settings.
    • Establish the research skills you need to be an informed, active, and collaborative practitioner.
    • Become an advocate and leader in the TESOL field.

    Scholarships

    New students with outstanding records of academic achievements and leadership accomplishments are eligible to receive a $1,500 MA in TESOL academic merit or leadership scholarship. Employees of our learning partners are eligible to receive a 10% discount on tuition.

    alumni Discount

    Hamline alumni of both undergraduate and master's degree programs are eligible to receive a 10% tuition discount when they enroll in any School of Education program.
