Professor You Teaches in China

Yali You, professor of music, taught multiple master classes in chamber music, cello performance, and ensemble training at Sichuan Normal University in Chengdu, Xian Conservatory of Music, and Shaanxi Symphony Orchestra in Xian during the summer of 2018.

Dr. You received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Shaanxi Symphony Orchestra, the beginning point of her life, where she was born, raised, and began her cello studies at the age of 12 with the Symphony’s late Principal Cellist.

Dr. You also received a book proposal to collaborate with a Chinese musicologist to write a Chinese/English bilingual Western music history and tour book. Based on her experiences of teaching J-term study abroad music history courses in the last two decades, she plans to begin this project when her schedule permits.

From multiple invitations by various institutions to teach in China Dr. You received, she only accepted the invitations that are for part time, and plans to continue her future teaching in China after school year ends in late May at Hamline University.
