Call for Newman Civic Fellowship Nominations 

Each year, President Miller has the opportunity to nominate one student leader for Campus Compact's Newman Civic Fellows Award. Sophomores and juniors are preferred but all are welcome to be nominated. This award recognizes community-involved student leaders who:

Engage in collaborative action with others from campus or from surrounding communities in order to create long-term social change.

Take action in addressing issues of inequality and political polarization.

Demonstrate the motivation and potential for effective long-term civic engagement.

The Wesley Center for Spirituality, Service, and Social Justice will accept applications for this prestigious honor and present the top candidates to President Miller who will then select this year’s recipient, submit the nomination, and the student recipient will be awarded at the Honors Convocation and the 2017 Minnesota Campus Compact’s State Summit and Award Luncheon at the University of St. Thomas on April 5, 2017.

If you would like to nominate a student for this award, please:

- Send the student’s full name and email to, Nancy Vang (nvang10@hamline.edu)

- Write a brief paragraph highlighting the student’s work in the community and how it aligns with the above criteria.

Deadline for nominations is: Friday, February 10 by 5pm.

Once nominated the students will be contacted and provided with the application materials.
