    What is Handshake? 

    Handshake is an online tool and app designed to make finding jobs and internships easy. The Career Development Center manages the Handshake platform on Hamline's campus to ensure the events, jobs and employers you see are relevant to our community. Whether you know exactly what kinds of opportunities you’re seeking or you’re just starting out, Handshake and the Career Development Center can support you in your career goals. 

    Why should you use Handshake?

    With Handshake you can:

    • Connect to the Career Development Center to make appointments. 
    • Find work study positions
    • Discover meaningful opportunities.  
    • Learn about employers relevant to you. 
    • Reach out to other students and alums to get real-world advice. 

    Ready to start using Handshake?

    Login to your account at hamline.joinhandshake.com using your Hamline email address and password to get started. These instructions will help you set up your Single Sign On the first time you access Handshake. When you sign in for the first time, Handshake will ask you some questions to help get your profile setup.

    You can also download Handshake’s app. It's available on iOS and Android and is a fantastic way to browse jobs, check out events, and message your peers on the go.

    Want to schedule an appointment via Handshake?

    If you would prefer to schedule online, you may make your own appointments through Handshake. Once you have logged into your account using your Hamline University email address and password, click on "Career Center" at the top, right hand side of the page. The "Appointments" option will take you through the scheduling process and allow you to select a time and date that works best for you.

    Note: This feature is only available to current, undergraduate students.

    Looking for work study opportunities?

    To find work study positions, log into your Handshake account using your Hamline University email address and password and click the following:

    • "Jobs" at the top, left side of the page 
    • "All Filters," the furthest right option beside the search bar 
    • "Work study" check box 

    This will show any positions posted currently. You may also use this link! Interested in being notified about new on-campus jobs? Follow the Career Development Center and receive updates for new on-campus work-study positions.

    Note: This feature is only available to current, undergraduate students. 

    Faculty & Staff: 

    In order to support and maintain equitable hiring practices across campus, it is important that students have equal access to any and all work study positions. In order to share a work study position with students, please use this document and tailor your position description to match the required details. Position descriptions may then be emailed to workshop@hamline.edu for review and posting.

    If you would like to login to the system to view work study, job and internship postings, you may create a student account here.


    To register for a free account in Handshake, alums may follow these instructions to sign up, login, and change your password. Alums will have to change their password post-graduation. Using Handshake you can:

    • Review and apply for current job postings
    • Post your resume online as a job applicant
    • Research employers in your interest area


    To register for a free account in Handshake, employers may create an account to join Handshake if you and/or your organization do not have an existing account. Using Handshake you will be able to post a position once but share it with multiple colleges and universities. Below are some resources to make starting out easy.
