Business Analytics Teams Succeed in Competition

At the end of May, two teams from the Hamline School of Business headed to the O’Malley School of Business at Manhattan College for a business analytics competition.

The teams continued Hamline’s tradition of success at this national competition, with one team placing third in the poster session and other making it to the semi-finals.

“The students had an opportunity to demonstrate what they’ve learned and they did a wonderful job,” said John Lochner, one of the faculty members who accompanied the teams.

The students had begun analyzing a data set provided by the competition in February and had prepared to answer questions. Once at the event, the teams received additional data and were given 20 hours to prepare an analysis and recommendations.

Thanks to the generosity of a donor, this was the first time Hamline was able to send two teams to the competition. Junior team members included Andrew Argeros, Leah Wenner, Shanoah Harren and Lindsay Steiger. Recent graduates, Jacob Prouty ‘19, Monty Stenroos ‘19, Harrison Jones ‘19 and Dakota Gamradt ‘19 made up the senior team. In addition to John Lochner, Hamline School of Business faculty members Austin Miller and Peggy Andrews and Paige Natzke ‘19 accompanied the students and served as advisors for the team.
