Life Free of Violence Flag Campaign

November 25 is the United Nations’ International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, which seeks to raise public awareness of violence against women in all countries around the world. It has been observed each year on November 25 since 2000. This year, Hamline is participating in the Live Free of Violence Flag Campaign, organized by the Minnesota Coalition for Battered Women (MCBW), which focuses on raising awareness about domestic violence and homicide in Minnesota. Hamline will display the flag in the Anderson Student Center on November 25 and every time a domestic homicide in Minnesota occurs. These flags will be displayed across Minnesota at the same times to bring awareness but also with the goal of starting a local community conversation about domestic violence and ways to end it. Hamline is one of the first colleges to participate in this campaign. The Sexual Violence Prevention Task Force hopes that the participation will increase awareness of the issue, honor those lost, and engage the community in the fight against domestic violence.
