Pres Martin received his BS degree in Biology from Indiana University, and then attended the Johns Hopkins University for his PhD in Biology. He received further training in developmental genetics at the University of California, Irvine, and in molecular biology at Rutgers University. From 1987 to 1996 Dr. Martin was a professor in the Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology at Drexel University. In 1996 he joined the faculty of Hamline University as chair of the Biology Department. From 2006 to 2010, he served as Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Hamline University, and then again as chair of the Biology Department until 2014. He is currently serving as Co-Director of the Biochemistry Major and Co-Director of the Health Sciences Major at Hamline. 
Currently one of the three Pre-Medical advisors, Professor Martin also provides pre-professional advising for students who are planning health related careers in veterinary medicine, physician assistantship, and physical therapy.  He is a major advisor for students pursuing majors in Biology (BA or BS), Biochemistry, Health Sciences, and Exercise and Sports Science. 

Teaching Style

Professor Martin's approach to teaching is based on the idea that the best way to learn science is by doing science.
