    Center For Academic Success and Achievement

    Fall 2020 Information

    The Center for Academic Success and Achievement (CASA) is available to support students from 9am-5pm Monday-Friday. Virtual advising appointments will be prioritized, but in-person appointments will be available as needed.  During this time, our preferred method of appointment scheduling is to call 6651-523-2912 during business hours.  You may also email advising@hamline.edu or stop by the lower level of Bush Memorial Library.  If you are requesting an appointment, please be sure to include your name, ID#, phone #, desired appointment mode (virtual, phone, in-person) and reason for appointment.

    Advising Weeks Drop-In Times  

    • For quick questions (less than 10 minutes).
    • Examples: how to choose a major advisor, how to register for an ACTC course, where to find a Hamline Plan requirement.

    Mission

    The Center for Academic Success and Achievement (CASA) at Hamline University provides students with the academic advising, academic skills support, and resources needed to successfully manage the college experience and maximize student involvement in their own learning and development. In collaboration with other campus offices CASA assists students with the transition to college and supports their academic endeavors throughout their entire Hamline career.

    Vision

    The Center for Academic Success and Achievement (CASA) strives to provide a welcoming, engaging, and inclusive intellectual learning community where students gain knowledge of the fundamental academic, social, and navigational skills necessary for growth and academic success at Hamline University.

    Goals

    The goals of CASA are to:

    • Promote student academic success through strategic use of resources.
    • Increase students’ ability to become independent learners.
    • Partner with faculty and staff to create a "seamless learning environment". (Kuh, 1996)
    • Help students develop competencies that will directly enhance their success in the classroom.
    • Support initiatives to increase student retention and graduation rates.
    • Collaborate with units across campus to provide holistic support for students.

    Clarification of Terms

    "Academic Success" within CASA will be defined as having a primary focus on the programmatic level and includes broad, campus-wide initiatives that support students through efforts that target undergraduate populations. Examples of these include the Writing and Communication Center, tutoring, the Institute for Academic Success, and other conditional admit programs.

    "Achievement" within CASA will be defined as the individual student perspective on their success through academic planning that may include advising, goal setting, major exploration, skills development, and other personalized strategies.
