Benegas Presents in Cuba

Assistant Professor Michelle Benegas, Second Language Teaching and Learning in the School of Education, was selected as the alumni representative (Ph.D., 2015) to participate in a delegation from the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota to Havana, Cuba. At 99.8%, Cuba has one of the highest literacy rates in the world. The delegation had the opportunity to learn about Cuba’s 1961 literacy campaign as well as ongoing education initiatives. In addition, Benegas presented Pedagogía Culturalmente Relevante: Una Investigación del Aprendizaje del Docente (Culturally Relevant Pedagogy: A Study on Teacher Learning) at Pedagogia 2017, an international conference of 3600 educators).
