Brian Peterson retires after 36 years at Hamline

If you attended Hamline anytime over the last 36 years, chances are one of the first people you met was Brian Peterson, senior associate director of undergraduate admission. Peterson retired in August after a career at Hamline that spanned more than three and a half decades.

“Brian Peterson has been part of the fabric of Hamline for 36 years, during which time he demonstrated ideals that we all aspire to,” said John Matachek, interim provost. “While his role in the admission office changed over the years, what was constant was his integrity, sincerity, and concern for students. If there were a Legends of Hamline award, Brian would certainly be top of the list.”

Peterson started working in the Undergraduate Admission Office shortly after graduating from college, when, he said, he was “bit by the admission bug.”

“I really enjoyed making connections with students and parents and helping them determine if Hamline was a good fit,” Peterson said. “I’ve worked with thousands of students and parents, and I’m grateful that I could help them with their college search process.”

What’s next for Peterson in retirement? “Time for family, friends, travel, projects, cooking, reading, and volunteering,” he said.
