Pipers take three of four matches on opening weekend

In the first match of the day, Hamline and Bluffton alternated set wins through the first four, with the Pipers taking sets one and three. Hamline then held that pattern in taking the fifth set for the win, 25-20, 25-27, 25-20, 17-25, 17-15.

Seniors Anita Rojas (Valle del Cauca, Colombia) and Tasha Simmons (Eagan, Minn.) led the Piper attack with 19 and 17 kills, respectively. Heidi Larsen (Jr., Andover, Minn.) had 28 digs, while Rojas added 17 of her own.

The Pipers won game two against Coe by scores of 25-12, 26-24, and 26-24. Rojas had 12 kills and Simmons tallied 10. Larsen added 28 digs to the Piper defensive game.

With the non-conference wins, the Pipers open the 2009 season at 3-1 overall.
