Associate Dean Gutierrez Receives Professional Award

Hamline University’s Associate Dean of Students Javier Gutierrez, Ed.D. recently received the Robert E. Mosier Professional Enrichment Award from the Upper Midwest Region Association of University Housing Officers (UMR-ACUHO).

At Hamline, Gutierrez oversees the area of Residential Life and New Student Programs, much of his work centers on student conduct. His colleagues in the Dean of Students Office, Patti Klein and Gaith Hijazin, and a professional peer, Terry Tumberello from the University of Wisconsin Whitewater, nominated him for the Robert E. Mosier Professional Enrichment Award which recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the professional development of their colleagues in college student housing.

Gutierrez met and exceeded all the criteria for the award having established a record of involvement in professional enrichment opportunities on Hamline’s campus and beyond. In addition to his role at Hamline University, Gutierrez has held leadership roles in UMR-ACUHO, ATTCHA (Association of Twin Cities Housing Officers), and MCPA (Minnesota College Personnel Association), Pfund (Philanthrofund Non-Profit Organization). He is a member of professional associations that include ASCA (Association for Student Conduct Administration), and MN-ASCA (Minnesota Association for Student Conduct Administration).

“I was so humbled to receive this award,” said Gutierrez. “It is a great reminder that it is our responsibility to keep mentoring others and to give back to our profession.”

The Upper Midwest Region Association of College and University Housing Officers includes higher education professionals who serve their institutions in student-facing roles such as housing and food service.
