Selective and Personal Admission Approach Yields Classes that Reflect Minnesota

Minnesota’s demographics are changing. Potential college students are increasingly non-white, children of immigrants, and come from families with little or no experience with college. Higher education institutions such as Hamline are adapting. Hamline admissions officers seek out high achieving, typically overlooked students and create tailored admission pathways for them. As a result, today Hamline is a leader among peer institutions in enrollment of first-generation students and the racial and ethnic composition of the university’s last five incoming classes has matched and exceeded diversity measures for the state. Hamline is helping Minnesota prepare for the future.
