Larson, Peterson and Manchi publish research on homicide changes in Twin Cities

Ryan Larson, assistant professor of criminology, Jill Peterson, professor of criminology, Jaycee Manchi, researcher and administrative assistant and psychology graduate, and their colleagues from the University of Washington and the University of Minnesota published an article, “The Changing Nature of Homicide in the Twin Cities: An Interrupted Time Series Analysis of the Police Murder of George Floyd,” in the Journal of Quantitative Criminology.

The study examines how homicide patterns in the Twin Cities changed during the COVID-19 pandemic and after the murder of George Floyd. It analyzes the number and characteristics of homicides, the geographic concentration of these changes, and the effects of police pullbacks in Minneapolis.

The research highlights how institutional ruptures can interact with chronic inequality to reshape lethal violence.
