Hamline graduates prepare for Commencement

Hamline University Honors the Class of 2023

Hamline University honored a new generation of leaders with Commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 13 at the RiverCentre in Saint Paul.

Three ceremonies were held to celebrate the academic achievements of those who graduated in December 2022 and those who complete degrees this spring and summer.

Three-hundred and 54 undergraduate students participated in the 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. ceremonies, followed by 140 graduate students at the 3:30 p.m. ceremony. A total of 429 undergraduate students and 238 graduate students earned degrees at Hamline this year.

Dr. Fayneese Miller, president of Hamline University, spoke at all three ceremonies, congratulating the graduates on their accomplishments. Dr. Miller also shared her admiration for the graduates’ perseverance and courage.

"You, our Hamline graduates, give us hope for this nation and this world,” President Miller said. “You've shown through your actions what grit, perseverance and courage looks like during a pandemic – be it health or cultural-climate related. You've shown that courage means you take a stand even though you know some will disagree with what you say and do."

During Commencement, an honorary degree was bestowed upon US Merchants CEO and founder Jeff Green. US Merchants was founded in 1979 and is now North America’s largest injection molding manufacturer of consumer containers in its category.
