Masking Policy Update Goes Into Effect Sept. 9

The Hamline University COVID-19 Executive Team released the following information to students, staff and faculty on Thursday, Sept. 8:

Hello, Pipers!

Thank you all for responding in such a positive way to our efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, especially over the last three weeks when we’ve asked you to be masked while indoors.

As you may know, Hamline utilizes a series of scientific metrics, endorsed by the CDC, to determine campus response to COVID-19. These metrics, which include the area immediately surrounding our campus, are now more favorable. That’s great news.

Due to low levels of infection, reporting, and isolation needs on and around the Hamline campus, we will move to Shift Plan Level 1 and take the following steps effective at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9.

  • Mask usage will be encouraged but not required on our campus in all locations not specifically signed as “mask required,” including classrooms.
  • We will return to our regular COVID management plan as linked above, and policies, at that time.

You are always free to wear a mask and we support anyone who wishes to do so. If you wish to have your individual space defined as “mask required,” please pick up a sign at the Anderson Center front desk to post on your individual office or residential room door. Please continue to carry, and be prepared to wear, approved masks if they are required for a given location (such as Counseling and Health Services) or event.

Thank you for doing all you can to help us reach our shared goals. Have a happy, healthy and safe start to your school year!

Sincerely,
The Hamline University COVID-19 Executive Team
