Hamline Remembers Carol E. Anderson '46

Hamline University mourns the passing of Carol E. Anderson '46, a life trustee, institutional benefactor and strong believer in the power of education.

Anderson came to Hamline from Fort Yates, North Dakota in 1942. While a student, she lived in Manor House and majored in sociology. After a career that included social work, farming, politics and many volunteer positions, Anderson joined the Hamline University Board of Trustees in 1993 and served until 2001.

She and her husband, Dennis, gave generously to Hamline, pledging $10 million for construction of the Carol Young Anderson and Dennis L. Anderson University Center and providing an additional gift of more than $3 million to establish the Carol E. Anderson Endowed Chair in the Social Sciences.

Carol is survived by her grandson Joshua Anderson of Dixon, Missouri and his wife, Ariel; granddaughter Ronna Schrenk of Salt Lake City, Utah and her husband Chris; great grandchildren Kayden, Myer, Sylvie, Braeden and Connor, and several nieces and nephews.

Dennis died in 2010. Two sons, Ronald and Jay Anderson; one sister, Edith Young, and her parents also predeceased her.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapid City, South Dakota. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. More information about Anderson and funeral arrangements can be found in her obituary.
