Sexual Violence Prevention Task Force Holds Annual Awareness Week with Events and Outreach.

Hamline’s commitment to ending sexual violence was vividly seen through the annual Sexual Violence Prevention Awareness week, replete with self-defense courses, student panels, and a walk of solidarity with victims of abuse.

“The week helped bring awareness, education, and advocacy about the importance of preventing sexual violence and the impact it has on campus communities and the lives of individuals,” Steph Wilencheck, assistant director at the Hedgeman Center for student diversity initiatives, said. “We all have a role in ending sexual violence.”

The university’s Sexual Violence Prevention Task Force, an interdisciplinary group made up of students, staff, and faculty who are passionate advocates on these issues, facilitated the week. This year’s events were organized in collaboration with Sexual Offense Services of Ramsey County, a frequent partner of the task force in previous campaigns.

The week culminated in the “Out of Darkness, Into Light” solidarity walk through the Hamline Midway neighborhood, which drew over 100 community participants. Watch the feature story on the walk which aired on KSTP Channel 5
