Power of One Day: Make An Impact

On Tuesday, November 13, 2018 during the fifth annual Power of One Day, the Hamline community will have an opportunity to do all the good they can by giving in support of our students and the university.

Power of One Day is Hamline University’s 24-hour day of impact. It’s a day for alumni, students, friends, parents, faculty, and staff from all around the world to come together to give back to Hamline.

“Whether it's enriching the student experience by providing funding for activities and teams, helping fine arts students perform on the world stage, or making sure students facing tough times have the resources they need, the gifts made on Power of One Day change lives,” notes Katy McFall, Director of Annual Giving.

Power of One Day gifts can be made to the university in general, or they can be made toward challenges. Challenges support specific programs or initiatives and many have additional funding tied to them in the form of a match.

McFall is particularly excited about two new challenges for 2018.

“We’ve developed two new challenges that will really have an impact for students experiencing financial hardship,” said McFall. “These are gifts that will make a concrete impact on student success.”

The Student Success Grant challenge will provide emergency tuition grants to students facing sudden financial need. Gifts to this fund will help students maintain their enrollment at Hamline, focusing on their studies, academic success, and graduation.

The Flash Fund is being created to assist students in need with small grants through times of sudden and unexpected hardship, such as challenges related to transportation, housing, medical, and other unforeseen costs.

“The Flash Fund will provide that little bit of money that keeps a student at Hamline,” said McFall, “It’s innovative and solves a real-world problem, similar to the Student Success Grant.”

Power of One Day is more than a day of giving; it is also a day of engagement for the Hamline Community. The Development Office will be in the Anderson Center 111 8:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. during the day to talk to students, faculty and staff about the impact of Power of One Day gifts. Students have an opportunity to become involved by writing thank you notes. Staff will be wearing tee-shirts and sharing updates on Hamline social media channels using the hashtag #HUOneDay
