Rita Majerle

Professor - Chemistry

Rita Majerle is an associate professor of chemistry in Hamline University's College of Liberal Arts. She has an extensive experience in both industry and academia. Her research interests include the synthesis of bioactive molecules and the development of novel synthetic methodology. Rita holds a BS in chemistry and biology from the University of Minnesota, Duluth and a PhD with concentration in synthetic organic chemistry from the University of Minnesota.

Students taking a course in organic, bioorganic, organometallic or medicinal chemistry with Professor Majerle will learn critical thinking skills; how to apply what is known through literature and observations and answer the questions why and why not. With rapid invention and changes in the scientific community, students will also learn how to adapt and apply.

"Organic chemistry is an applied art that provides creative solutions to a changing world. Students literally apprentice in the field and take ownership as they grow in knowledge and skill. I want students to develop creative problem solving approaches. To do that, it's important for them to push limits and question the known. "
