Textbook for Teaching English Language Learners Published

Hamline University School of Education Professor Betsy Parrish published a new book, “Teaching Adult English Language Learners: A Practical Introduction,” with Cambridge University Press.

This completely updated edition of her earlier text provides a comprehensive and accessible overview of teaching principles and practices for working with adult English language learners. In addition to language and literacy development, she shows how to integrate critical thinking skills and digital literacy practices into all instruction.

“In the new edition I provide concrete advice for how to prepare all learners for the demands and opportunities of the 21st century,” said Parrish.

Parrish wrote the textbook to be easy to use and inclusive of the latest developments in teaching English language learners. It was written for both the novice and experienced teacher to address the diverse needs of all adult ESL students in highly practical ways. The book identifies good classroom practices, includes real-life examples, and incorporates reader reflection exercises.

“Teaching Adult English Language Learners: A Practical Introduction” is available digitally and in paperback from Cambridge University Press.
