MFAC Welcomes New Faculty

MFAC New Faculty Brandy Colbert and Elana Arnold 375

The CWP is happy to announce that we have added two new faculty, Elana K. Arnold and Brandy Colbert, to our faculty. They will be starting with us in July! 

Brandy Colbert
 is the award-winning author of Little & Lion, Pointe, and the forthcoming Finding Yvonne and The Revolution of Birdie RandolphLittle & Lion (Little, Brown, 2017) won ALA’s 2018 Stonewall Book Award; was named to ALA’s 2018 Best Fiction for Young Adults; and was named a Book of the Month Club selection, a Junior Library Guild selection, and a best book on multiple lists. Her debut novel, Pointe (Putnam, 2014), won the 2014 Cybils Award for young adult fiction and was also named on numerous best lists. She was also chosen as a Publishers Weekly Flying Start for spring 2014.

Brandy’s short fiction and essays have been published in several critically acclaimed anthologies for young people. She earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Missouri State University and works now as a copyeditor for magazines and books. She lives and writes in Los Angeles.

Elana K. Arnold
 is the author of eight novels for young adults and middle grade readers, with one YA novel and two picture books forthcoming. Her most recent novel, What Girls Are Made Of, was a finalist for the 2017 National Book Award in Young People’s Literature. Her other books have been listed on numerous Best lists and earned many awards, including a Junior Library Guild Selection, an ALAN pick, an Amelia Bloomer Project book, a Westchester Fiction Award, a Bank Street Book of the Year, and a Gold Medal in the Moonbeam Children’s Book Award.

Elana has a Master’s degree in creative writing/fiction from the University of California/Davis where she has taught creative writing and adolescent literature. She lives in southern California with her family.
