'Genius' Award Winner

Hamline writing instructor Gene Luen Yang was named as one of 23 MacArthur Foundation “genius” fellows last September. The award, presented by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation to individuals working in any field who have shown “extraordinary originality and dedication in their creative pursuits and a marked capacity for self-direction,” comes with a $625,000 prize.

Yang also was named 2015–16 National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature.

In this humorous Tedx talk, Hamline professor and graphic novelist Gene Yang shares some unexpected insights and urges educators to bring comic books into the classroom.
