Pope publishes article, elected to two positions


Health Law Institute Director Thaddeus Pope recently published, "Legal Briefing: POLST: Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment," in the Journal of Clinical Ethics with law student Melinda Hexum.

Pope also was elected secretary of the American Association of Law Schools (AALS) Section on Law, Medicine, and Healthcare for 2013-14. In 2014-15, he will be the chair-elect.

Also in January, Pope was appointed to MEDCAC, the Medicare Evidence Development & Coverage Advisory Committee for a two-year term. MEDCAC reviews and evaluates medical literature, technology assessments, and examines data and information on the effectiveness and appropriateness of medical items and services that are covered under Medicare, or that may be eligible for coverage under Medicare MEDCAC judges the strength of the available evidence and makes recommendations to CMS based on that evidence.
