Marketing & Enrollment Management Continue to Position Hamline for Growth with New Staff Hires

Andrea Budke, director of marketing planning for the School of Business
Andrea Budke began her new position as director of marketing planning for the School of Business in late November. In this role, she will work closely with the dean, staff and faculty, graduate admissions, and her colleagues in marketing to develop strategies and tactics that drive enrollment growth for the School of Business. Previously, Andrea was the digital account manager for Infinity Direct, a full-service direct marketing agency. Prior to that, she served as a planning manager for 3e, The Life Time Fitness in-house agency, and she spent more than 13 years in progressive marketing consulting, account service, and project management roles at The Lacek Group, the loyalty marketing agency of Ogilvy and Mather.

John Engquist, manager of admission operations
John Engquist will be joining Hamline University as manager of admission operations in the Office of Undergraduate Admission. John will be responsible for managing the admission database and the university's CRM system Hobson's Connect for both graduate and undergraduate admission. John is currently the director of operations at Oak Hills College. He was previously at Bemidji State University where he was part of the school's very successful Connect implementation team. He will begin his role after the holidays.

Tony Gillen, web specialist

Tony Gillen joins the Office of Strategic Communications as a web specialist. Tony will help to lead the university's efforts to manage, design, develop, and grow Hamline's web presence both internally through the Hamline website and externally through online communications with prospective students and community partners. He will also assist marketing in developing and implementing successful online strategies to grow enrollment and support Hamline's reputation. Currently, Tony serves as the lead web designer for OPTP, a Minneapolis-based company that provides rehabilitation and fitness products. He also runs a consulting business for web design and development projects. Previously, Tony spent 10 years as a web developer and designer for the University of Minnesota within its Office of Technology.

Tracey Peters, event & marketing planner
Tracey Peters will begin her new position as the event and marketing planner for the Creative Services team on December 26. In this role, she will work alongside the Special Events Director to plan and execute engaging undergraduate and graduate admission events and special university-wide events that grow enrollment and enhance the university's brand and reputation. She will also support her direct supervisor, Director of Marketing for Undergraduate and Brand, Collette Litzinger, in developing collateral and promotional material for events, developing marketing campaigns to attract first-year and transfer students, and reporting and tracking inquiries. Tracey has been an admission counselor for Hamline University since 2011 and is already very familiar with the undergraduate event portfolio. Tracey also has several years of experience in the corporate sector as a store manager and team leader for Target Corporation.

Jim Poole, community/corporate engagement outreach director (contractor)
Jim Poole began a new role with Hamline University in December as a contractor focused on researching and building relationships with corporations, non-profits, associations and other organizations with employees that may have interest in Hamline's academic programs. Previously, Jim served as the interim contracted director of marketing planning for Hamline's School of Business. Jim is the founder of ChangeAgency, a firm that specializes in marketing planning and growth strategies for businesses and nonprofits. Prior to engaging with Hamline, he was director of marketing planning for graduate, extended and online learning programs at The College of St. Scholastica. He also served as marketing manager for the James J. Hill Reference Library.

Shawn Skoog, director of graduate admission
Shawn Skoog joined the Office of Graduate Admission on December 11. Working closely with program directors, department chairs, deans, and his colleagues in marketing, Shawn will create, direct, and implement activities and processes to identify, attract and enroll students into the graduate and post-baccalaureate programs of Hamline University. He will supervise the graduate admission staff, represent Hamline University at external recruiting events, oversee follow-up activities with prospective students, plan, manage, and implement information sessions, orientation and other recruitment and outreach events, and develop and maintain a contact management system. He will report to the Vice President for Marketing and Enrollment. Shawn hails from ITT Technical Institute, where he served in progressive roles for the past five years - from educational representative and manager of recruitment to his most recent role as director of recruitment. Shawn also has experience as an adjunct instructor for ITT, teaching courses on project communication and documentation, managerial accounting and finance, and strategies for technical professionals. He has also served as a sales manager for New Horizons Computer Learning Centers. He began his career as the head freshman football coach for Hudson High School in Hudson, WI. Shawn has a BS in business administration from University of Wisconsin-River Falls, and he received his MBA from Hamline University.
