Hamline defeated Bethany Lutheran by set scores of 25-17, 26-24, 25-21.

The Pipers and Vikings exchanged pairs of points to start out the match and get to 5-5. Heather Bly (Fy., Amery, Wis.) then strung together three straight kills to put Hamline up 8-5.

The Pipers didn't look back from there in the opening set, as they held a lead as large as 10 points at 21-11.

The second set saw even play, with the teams staying within a point or two of each other until the end. Simmons ended the set on a solid kill off of a set from Jackie Kelly (Jr., Blaine, Minn.).

Lauren Fisher (Fy., Tacoma, Wash.) led off the third set with a kill, but the Vikings answered back with a pair of points. The Vikings climbed into a 7-4 lead before Danielle Bennett-Curry (Fy., Minneapolis, Minn.) had one of her seven kills to get the serve back for the Pipers. A pair of errors by the Vikings evened the score at seven.

The teams stayed even until Simmons recorded her 19th kill of the match at 20-20 to put the Pipers ahead for the final time. Her 20th kill gave them a two-point lead at 22-20. Bennett-Curry recorded the final three Piper points of the match on kills.

In addition to Simmons' 20 kills, Byl and Bennett-Curry each recorded seven. Heidi Larsen (Jr., Andover, Minn.) had 17 digs.

The Vikings were led by nine kills from Emily Schrupp (Fy., Norwood, Minn.).

With the non-conference win, the Pipers move to 11-12 overall and remain at 0-7 MIAC. The Vikings move to 6-16 overall and stay at 3-6 UMAC. The Pipers will remain at Hutton Arena to host Macalester in MIAC play on Wednesday, October 21, at 7:00 p.m.
