Pipers drop MIAC home opener to Auggies

The first two sets opened to a point-by-point battle between the teams. Hamline held a lead at 7-5 before the Auggies tied it up at 7-7. The visitors then took the lead at 8-7 and built up their advantage to 16-8.

In the second set, the teams were even through 5-5 with long rallies defining each point. The Auggies took their lead at 6-5 on an attack error and lead until the end of the set.

In the final set, the Auggies took a lead that they would maintain on an early Katie Christiansen (Sr., North Mankato, Minn.) kill at 3-2.

Hamline was led by Sam Greeney-Hamlin's (Fy., St. Cloud, Minn.) seven kills. Shannon Schmidt (Jr., Bismark, N.D.) had six kills. Defensively, Heidi Larsen (Sr., Andover, Minn.) had 25 digs.

Augsburg was led by Christensen's 12 kills. A trio of Auggies had double-digit digs while Emily McCourt (Fy., Sun Prairie, Wis.) recorded 32 set assists.

The Pipers are now 7-8, 0-2 MIAC while the Auggies are 8-7, 1-1 MIAC. Hamline will play at home again on Saturday, September 25, in a 3:00 p.m. conference contest against St. Catherine.
