Sandhir Presents at International Symposium

Dr. Urvashi Sandhir, lecturer in chemistry, presented at the 26th International Symposium on Plasma Chemistry (ISPC-26), held June 16–20, 2025, at the University of Minnesota.

Hamline was the only primarily undergraduate institution represented among leading research universities from 28 countries. Dr. Sandhir presented the work conducted in the Hamline Plasma Laboratory with her research students Sara Dooley ’25, Hailey Brady ’25, Destiny Yang ’23, Julia Hintermeister ’23, and Cal Athmann ’27. Their project focused on the degradation of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)—commonly known as “forever chemicals”—using a custom-built atmospheric pressure plasma jet.

This interdisciplinary research effort was conducted in collaboration with Dr. Carin Huset of the Minnesota Department of Health and Professor Peter Bruggeman of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota.
