Psychology professor Dr. Serena King was the primary author of a letter published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Pediatrics publication entitled "Frequent and Problem Gambling in Public School Students." King was assisted in the work by assistant professor of mathematics Katharine Adamyk.
Dr. King's research utilized the 2022 Minnesota Student Survey, which was given to more than 83,000 students in three grade levels. The survey results, which can be read at the link above, showed that over eight percent of students surveyed met criteria for either frequent or problem gambling.
Since the letter's release last week, Dr. King has made appearances on KARE-11's "Breaking the News" and on WCCO-AM to discuss the findings.
