New “Going Pro” series brings Murray Hill to campus

The President’s Office is bringing three high-profile professionals to campus this academic year as part of its new “Going Pro” speaker series.  The series launches Oct. 29 with Murray Hill followed by Dionne Harmon on Feb. 4 and Pete Janzen on April 1.

The series will introduce students, faculty and staff to accomplished professionals across different fields who have built their adult lives and careers on the foundation of a strong liberal arts institution.

Launched in conjunction with Hamline University’s strategic plan, which focuses on career preparation, pathways and placement, the series will highlight the professional experiences of individuals whose careers reflect the value of a liberal arts education. Each "pro" embodies, in the words of Hamline’s mission, a "successful life of leadership, scholarship, or service."

Each guest will spend a full day on campus, touring campus, visiting a class or two and participating in a live, one-on-one conversation with President Hostetter. These conversations will give students, faculty and staff the opportunity to learn about each guest's career journey and what it took to “go pro.”

The “Going Pro” Speakers

Each guest will participate in a one-on-one conversation with President Hostetter in Sundin Music Hall from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Each event is free and open to the Hamline community.

The first guest speaker is Murray Hill, an award-winning comedian, actor, television host and one of New York City’s most celebrated downtown entertainers as well as a trailblazer in alternative comedy, cabaret and drag. The first 50 people through the door will receive a free book. Following the conversation, Hill will sign books in the lobby. Additional books will be available for purchase.
