Learn about careers in student affairs

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to explore a career in student affairs? Student affairs is a broad field within higher education focused on supporting students' personal, social and professional development outside the classroom. Career paths include student organizations, leadership development, residence life, career services, orientation, advising and more.

As part of Careers in Student Affairs Month, the Student Activities and Leadership Development office invites students to the Careers in Student Affairs reception Oct. 21 from 4-5:30 p.m. in Anderson Center, Room 112.

At the reception, students will have the opportunity to:

  • Meet alumni who are working in student affairs and hear about their career journeys.
  • Learn about different career paths and what student affairs professionals do.
  • Ask questions about graduate school, entering the field and building a career in higher education.
  • Connect with professionals and fellow student leaders across campus.
  • Explore how your leadership experiences and interests could translate into a career in student affairs.

Whether you’re passionate about student leadership, community building, mentoring, programming, advocacy, or simply curious about student affairs, the reception is an opportunity to explore more about the field. You don’t need to be considering a career in higher education to attend.
