The Creative Writing Programs, in collaboration with Writers Go to the Movies, will present a screening of Rushmore Oct. 3, at 6 p.m. in Anderson Center, Room 304. The event will include a conversation with author Will McGrath MFA '20 and Jonathan Goldstein, host and creator of the podcast "Heavyweight."
Following the screening, McGrath will read a short excerpt of his work and join Goldstein in conversation. A writing exercise will also be offered for anyone interested in participating.
McGrath’s work has appeared in The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Believer and other publications. His debut book, “Everything Lost Is Found Again,” won the Society of Midland Authors Award for biography and memoir and the Dzanc and Disquiet Open Borders Book Prize. His most recent book, :Farewell Transmission: Notes from Hidden Spaces,” was a finalist for the Minnesota Book Award and shortlisted for the William Saroyan International Prize for Writing.
Goldstein created and hosts “Heavyweight.” He previously created and hosted “Wiretap,” which ran on CBC for 11 years. His fiction essays and reported stories have appeared on “This American Life” for over 20 years. In 2024, Goldstein received the iHeart Pioneer Award.
Writers Go to the Movies is a film series where writers and movie lovers gather to talk about their craft, art-making, cross disciplinary ideas, and to share a movie together.
