Two faculty members from the Creative Writing Programs have been longlisted for the 20206 National Book Awards, with books in two of the five awards categories.
Angela Pelster-Wiebe, director and professor of Creative Writing, was longlisted for the National Book Award in Nonfiction for her new book, “The Evolution of Fire: Essays on Crisis and Becoming,” a memoir in essays about crisis, hope and the decision to resist or embrace change.
Tae Keller, a faculty member in the Master of Fine Arts in Writing for Children and Young Adults (MFAC), was longlisted in the Young People's Literature category for her book, “When Tomorrow Burns.” The middle-grade novel follows three seventh-grade friends dealing with the trials of growing up, sexism, climate change and a touch of mysticism.
The National Book Awards recognize: Fiction, Nonfiction, poetry,Young People's Literature and translated literature.
Five finalists from each category will be announced on Oct. 6. Winners in all categories will be announced during the 77th National Book Awards ceremony Nov. 18 in New York City.
