Soeffker Gallery will feature the Mercy of Events, an upcoming art exhibit by artist Jade Hoyer, from Sept. 8 through Oct. 3.
The art exhibit is inspired by the writing of Margaret Atwood and the vastness of Lake Michigan. Hoyer's work features a large-scale portrait of the lake meticulously assembled on graph paper from 90,000 individual watercolor circles painted using actual lake water.
Through watercolor and collage, the exhibition playfully subverts familiar visual structures, such as grids and childhood standardized tests, to explore the human quest for order in a world of unpredictable change.
An opening reception and artist talk will be held Friday, Oct. 2 from 5-7 p.m.
