Managing finances, student loans and debt can be challenging. Lutheran Social Service (LSS) Financial Choice is a non-profit agency that provides free, confidential, personalized guidance to help people manage debt, create budgets and plan for their financial future.
Hamline University faculty, staff, students and recent alumni have access to these services through a partnership and can receive up to six free, confidential counseling sessions per year.
Services include debt management plan (DMPs) that consolidate multiple bills into a single payment, reduce interest and improve credit scores; personalized budgeting and repayment planning; guidance on understanding credit reports and improving credit.
Additional support includes housing counseling from Housing and Urban Development (HUD)-certified counselors to help with buying, refinancing or managing a mortgage; student loan counseling to navigate repayment options; and financial wellness support to increase retirement savings, plan for life events and achieve long-term financial goals. LSS does not provide retirement or investment advice.
