Students Present at University of Minnesota

Layla Stenson, Hanan Abdi, and AJ Escalante presented their respective posters at the the U of M LSSURP/SOAR-REEU poster symposium on Thursday, August 7. Each student had previously participated in LSSURP/SOAR-REEU research programs, which are designed to provide education and mentoring for those studying life sciences.

A.J. is a neuroscience major and did research with Bridget Jacques-Fricke the summer between his sophomore and junior year. Layla, who majors in biology, has worked in the Hamline biology department since she was a first-year student, and did research with Betsy Martinez-Vaz the summer between first year and sophomore year. She will be a junior this fall, and continues to work in the department taking care of the department greenhouse. Hanan, a biochemistry major, has worked in the Hamline biology department since she was a first-year student, and did research with Betsy Martinez-Vaz the summer between sophomore and junior year. Now a rising senior, she continues to work in the biology department, helping to supervise lab preps.
