Paint the Pavement (PtP) is a St Paul City initiative through the Department of Public Works, which invites neighbors to organize and enact elements of placemaking.
Neighbors gather, organize, design and install an approved mural on a neighborhood street. The intention behind placemaking is turning anonymous space into a claimed space, increasing social connections and strengthening community. Additional benefits include traffic calming, lower crime rates, increasing livability, and creating public art.
The Midway neighbors around the intersection of Van Buren Avenue and Pascal Street have been the site of the longest Paint the Pavement project connected to the City of St Paul. Our intersection mural has been part of the fabric of the neighborhood since it was first painted in 2006. Repainted several times over the years, it is faded and in need of a refresh!
We are gathering on Saturday September 6th (rain date Sept 13th) and beginning to paint at 10am.
We welcome you to come and join us on Sept 6th for our celebration of being neighbors and community during our paint day!!
