RUSTIN Film Screening and Discussion

In conjunction with the Social Justice Symposium and as part of its ongoing commitment to professional development and increasing cultural competence, the Division of Student Affairs is hosting a viewing and discussion of the 2023 film "RUSTIN" on Wednesday, April 3 from 12:30 - 3 p.m. in 111 Anderson Center.

RUSTIN is the critically acclaimed film from director George C. Wolfe, starring Colman Domingo as Bayard Rustin. Architect of 1963’s momentous March on Washington, Rustin challenged authority and never apologized for who he was, but was forgotten despite making history. Rustin spotlights the man who, alongside Martin Luther King Jr., dared to imagine a different world and inspired a movement.

In the film, we even meet Anna Arnold Hedgeman (1922), the first Hamline graduate of color, who played important roles in social justice movements, particularly the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, during which Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" Speech.

This viewing is open to all members of the university community. Bring your lunch, watch the film, and reflect on its connection to contemporary issues related to diversity, inclusion, equity, and intersectionality! For more information, contact the Dean of Students Office at 651-523-2421 or an-studentaffairs@hamline.edu
