Physics Students Attend Minnesota Microscopy Society Spring Symposium

Physics students Fadhimah Mohamed 25 and Josh Sedarski 24 attended the Minnesota Microscopy Society's (MMS) annual Spring Symposium hosted at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. The theme of this meeting was "Super Resolution and Beyond," and featured presentations on fascinating topics such as sub-angstrom resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy, the history and future of Zeiss' Airyscan instrument, and more. Vendors such as Hitachi High Technologies, Zeiss, JEOL, ThermoFischer Scientific, and others tabled throughout the symposium. Mohamed and Sedarski also participated in a student poster competition, presenting alongside undergraduate and graduate students from the University of Minnesota and the College of St. Scholastica. Sedarski was chosen as the recipient of the Best Image award, for his scanning electron microscope images of activated carbons derived from bur oak wood.
