Information on Presidential Transition Process

Dear Members of the Hamline Community:

As you are aware, President Fayneese Miller has announced that she will retire next year after eight years of dedicated service to the university.  With her pending retirement, the Board of Trustees is establishing a process by which her successor will be named.

While there are still details to be worked through, we want to provide you an update about this process. Our goal is to be as transparent as possible about the process and provide additional updates when practical.

The Board of Trustees has formed an Acting/Interim President Search and Selection Ad-Hoc Advisory Committee. The Committee is comprised of the following groups.

  • Seven members of the Board of Trustees, selected by the Chair of the Audit Subcommittee
  • Two faculty members, selected from four nominees of the Faculty Council Executive Committee
  • One staff member, selected from two nominees of the Hamline University Staff Association
  • One student, selected from two nominees of the Hamline Undergraduate Student Congress leadership.

The Chair of the Audit Subcommittee selected members from the nominations.

The committee’s work will begin on or about June 14, and continue until two candidates are recommended to the Board of Trustees in the fall with the goal of an Acting/Interim President starting work on January 1, 2024. After the Acting/Interim President is in place, the Board of Trustees will create a process for filling the role of president longer term.

The Board of Trustees will keep you updated as the search progresses. Thank you for your interest in our process and your dedication to Hamline University.

Sincerely,

Andrea Mowery
Chair, Hamline Board of Trustees Audit Subcommittee
