"Africa Rising" is a documentary about the grassroots movement to end Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) across Africa. Every day with little more than fierce determination and deep love for their communities, brave activists are leading the way to break the silence about this centuries-old tradition. Together, these activists have created a formidable grassroots movement to end FGM. Participants who join us for a screening of this film will learn how women are using grassroots organizing in communities to educate people about the dangers of FGM. A post-film conversation will be facilitated by Fartun Weil, Executive Director of Isuroon (meaning, woman taking care of herself), an education and advocacy organization in Minneapolis. The organization promotes health equity and literacy and helps Somali women to build self‚Äźsufficiency and maintain healthy lives.
