For more than two decades, Dr. Javier Gutierrez has worked at the intersection of student development, equity leadership, and institutional culture, first as a practitioner, and now as a faculty member and director of Hamline's Doctorate in Education (EdD) program, returning to the institution where he earned his own doctorate. He brings 20+ years in student affairs, Title IX work, and crisis response into his work and teaching, and mentors emerging leaders pursuing the EdD as a degree of practice. His scholarly interests center on autoethnography as a leadership methodology, equity-centered institutional change, and the preparation of practitioner-scholars for complex organizational environments. Dr. Gutierrez believes doctoral education is one of the most powerful levers for equity in higher education — and is honored to lead it.
