Julia Wang, assistant professor of forensic science, recently published on screening methods for forensic evidence in the journal Forensic Genomics.
The study examined Y-screening methods, or using DNA quantification to predict suitability of evidence for processing and developing DNA profiles of persons of interest, in sexual assault evidence. Compared to conventional serological screening, Y-screening offers greater sensitivity, accurate predictions of DNA profiling success, and more objective metrics for forensic scientists to use in making evidence processing decisions.
